Peaceful Assurances

Written by Brooke’s mother in 2019, a year after Brooke’s passing.

“May 22, 2018

One year ago today, we never dreamed that Brooke had only three more days on this earth. Brooke woke up earlier than usual that Tuesday morning, one year ago, before heading to her therapy appointment. I was cleaning the kitchen as I watched her come bouncing down the stairs, she grabbed her Book of Mormon and headed out to sit on our back porch swing to read her scriptures. (Rebekah took this photo of Brooke that morning.) Brooke was happy and hopeful. That morning she texted a photo of a meaningful scripture to Guillermo and Evan.

We had no idea until after her passing. We were all sitting around talking and Evan shared with us that Brooke had send him this photo of a scripture that Tuesday morning. When he showed us the photo, we were absolutely stunned. Brett rushed upstairs to his office and brought down His missionary plaque. Unbeknown to Brooke, the scripture Brett had chosen as his mission scripture was the very same verse that Brooke texted to Guillermo and Evan that Tuesday morning. Brooke was preparing for her mission and, unknowingly, had shared her Daddy’s mission scripture as she was getting ready to depart on her own mission in the world of spirits. The scripture was: Alma 26: 22 “Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.”

We have had several confirmations that Brooke’s mission here on earth was complete. This was one powerful experience that helped us begin to see more clearly how Brooke was spiritually preparing to return to her heavenly home.

As hard as that is to accept and understand, Brooke has given us many powerful messages confirming that she is exactly where she needs to be, doing exactly what she is supposed to be doing. We have had countless peaceful assurances that Brooke was indeed Called to return to her Heavenly Home, Called To Serve. She always had the Desire to Serve a mission. She has a great love of all people and a depth of compassion, faith and wisdom that I am certain continues to bless countless lives. This knowledge brings great hope, comfort and peace through our greatest agony. Missing you so deeply my precious daughter!”
